Bird netting is often required to protect birds and other wildlife from coming into contact with hazardous fluids contained in frac pits. As frac pits continue to grow larger in size, installing a quality bird net can pose significant difficulties. The key to a successful bird netting installation is to use an extruded net, support poles, and plenty of reinforcement.
An extruded net is made from solid material that sheds moisture. This prevents moisture buildups, which can cause the net to sag into the pit. A solid extruded netting is more durable than knitted netting, making it more resistant to tearing. We reinforce any bird netting we install with polywire monofilament and steel cables. Support poles are then spaced at equal distances apart to prevent the net from sagging into the pit. Our bird netting design is specifically built to endure the harsh environment of the oil field, and is capable of withstanding the sustained high-speed winds of West Texas.
For open frac pits or tanks where bird nets are not required, electronic bird repellants are a great solution to protect open spaces from unwanted birds and prevent habitation of migratory birds. Electronic bird deterrent devices produce extremely effective audio and visual threats that frighten, irritate and disorient birds. Electronic bird repellent devices provide effective, affordable and humane bird control solutions. Coverage is offered for areas of all sizes, and installation is quick and easy.
Big D Equipment has experience installing both sonic and ultrasonic devices. The sonic devices have an effective coverage area from 6 acres up to 25 acres and are effective for all animals and birds. The ultrasonic (inaudible) devices are silent to humans and have been requested in areas where the sonic (audible) devices caused human disturbance. Unlike the sonic devices, the ultrasonic devices have a much smaller coverage area of up to 3,600 square feet per device. Therefore, more devices must be installed when covering a large area like a frac pit. In these cases, the speakers surround the ponds surface perimeter and laser light systems can be installed as a secondary form of deterrent.
