The Big D Story
Big D Equipment Company was established in October 1977 and began by lining reserve pits for the energy industry. With the bustle of the industry, Big D grew and searched out new product offerings that were both innovative and cost effective for their customers.
During this era, the industry was using steel pipe to transport water from reserve pits. Big D saw polyethylene pipe as an opportunity for growth because it was lightweight, required less installation and was more economical. The opportunity to make the process of water supply intrigued the young company, and they soon acquired a spooling truck and welding equipment. Polyethylene pipe revolutionized the supplying of water for rigs and our business began to grow rapidly. Now, some 30 years later, we continue to develop the process and are recognized as one of the leading polyethylene pipe installers in the rental market.
In 1980, we acquired the first pump and generator to complement our rental line, and became the only company at that time to offer complete water supply service. Our customers could call us for pit lining, polyethylene pipe installation, pump and generator rental and fence building, instead of having to call several different contractors. Our vision was to become the single source for our customers.
Big D Companies inventory and equipment lists now include over 850 miles of polyethylene pipe, a fleet of spooling trucks and auxiliary spool trailers, a variety of submersible and booster pumps and an assortment of generators.
Because our history in the rental business had been such a success, we added complementary services to help attain our vision of becoming a single source for our customers. We added a large fleet of trash trailers, a host of light towers and included temporary fence building in our arsenal.
After great success with the polyethylene pipe, we expanded our services to include the permanent lining of ponds in 1988. This business grew rapidly and included installation of complete liner systems in landfills, liquid storage facilities and secondary containment sites. As the environmental Protection Agency and other state agencies continue to increase their enforcement of environment regulations, the liner business has become an essential part of our environment.
In 1994, we saw an opportunity to broaden our liner install capabilities by acquiring the equipment to perform our own construction services. Having our own earth-moving equipment has allowed us to become more competitive on many projects and allow us to easily coordinate the scheduling with customers.
Big D will continue to grow services, improve processes, and seek out innovative technologies that will improve our customer satisfaction as well as our bottom line. We service a 200-mile coverage area reaching through Texas and New Mexico.
